Private designs

A private design is drawn from your account's own seed space. Nobody else can draw it.

Every Logo Lava address is public in one way: the same name, options and seed make the same logo for anyone who asks. That is what lets a seed be pinned and cached. A private design changes that for logos you want to keep to yourself, such as a client's logo before launch. Add private=1 to a signed address, and the seed you give is mixed with a secret that belongs to your account before anything is drawn. The same name and seed give you your design and give everyone else a different one.

Who can use it

Private designs come with Pro and Business. The address has to carry your api_key and a sig made with your signing secret, so that nobody else can draw into your seed space by using your key. On the account page and in the Logo Maker, the Private switch signs the address for you.

How it works

The address keeps your own seed, so you can read it, pin it and change it as usual. Behind the scenes the service computes a different seed from your seed and a salt that only your account has, and draws that. Rotating your signing secret does not change the salt, so a design you made stays yours after a rotation. The signature must be made again, because the old addresses stop working.

A response for a private design is cached for a year at the CDN and for an hour in browsers, and it is tagged with your account. If you are not signed up for a plan, or your plan has ended, the address answers with 402 and an image that says the plan has ended, as soon as the CDN copy is cleared, and within an hour at most. Starting a plan again brings the same addresses back with the same images. The JSON form returns signed addresses for the PNG and SVG, so the result can be used straight away.

Licence

Files made with private designs are covered by section 6b of the terms: they may be used while your plan is active and for 30 days after it ends. A brand kit made from a private design follows the same rule.
